Abstract

1. To examine the association between first episode psychosis (FEP) in adolescents compared to matched controls (non-psychotic adolescents with first episode of other mental illness) for cannabis use and family history of mental illness.

2. The study also aims to assess whether lifetime use of cannabis in adolescents with FEP is associated with earlier age of onset, duration of symptoms (controlling for age and age of onset) and nature of symptoms in patients with non-affective psychosis (schizophrenia spectrum) versus those with affective psychosis.

3. The study also examines if a family history of schizophrenia is associated with an increased risk for cannabis use, earlier age of onset of symptoms, duration of symptoms and nature of symptoms in the schizophrenia spectrum patients compared to those with affective psychoses in adolescents
