An Audit of Peripartum Hypsterectomy at the Grey's / Edendale / Northdale Complex of Hospitals

Nathan Uzoho, Patuxolo Pavel Songca

Abstract

The aim of this audit is to estimate the incidence, rate, risk factors, indications, complications, maternal morbidity and mortality (outcome) associated with obstetric peripartum hysterectomy performed in these hospitals between January 2003 to January 2008 and to examine for any possible correlation between patient's immune tolerance level (HIV Status) and CD 4 cell count level and rate of peripartum hysterectomy. Lessons learnt from such an audit may help in revising clinical protocols for the emergency management of severe obstetric conditions.
