Abstract

A pilot study, using an observational descriptive study design will be undertaken on 60 healthy infants aged 12months and below at a primary healthcare clinic in Durban. The study aims to determine the normal values of skin barrier properties of these participants. Eligible participants will be identified first, by randomized sampling and, second by the study’s inclusion/exclusion criteria. Non-invasive measurements will be done on two sites on the participant’s arm and will be recorded with instruments that have been previously validated for similar studies. The results will be analysed descriptively.
