A pilot study investigating baseline skin barrier properties of African women attending a primary health care clinic (Chesterville),Durban-South Africa

Abstract


This is a pilot study, investigating baseline skin barrier properties (with specific reference to Trans-epidermal water loss, skin surface hydration and skin erythema) of child bearing african women attending a primary health care clinic in Durban south Africa. The study will be done in the above participants who are HIV negative and have no pre-existing dermatological conditions. It is a descriptive study that will involve 60 participants, who will be randomly chosen from prospective participants who meet the inclusion criteria.

        The tests will be done at the clinic using a non-invasive instrumentation to assess the parameters mentioned above.
