Abstract

AIM OF STUDY:

To evaluate the rational use of Computed Tomographic Pulmonary Angiography (CTPA) in the diagnostic evaluation of adult patients with a clinical suspicion of Acute Pulmonary Thrombo-embolism (PE) at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH).

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

To assess the appropriateness of CTPA utility in evaluating patients suspected of having PE on clinical grounds.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:

  • To compare the pre-test probability scores to the outcomes of the CTPA examinations.
  • To determine the diagnostic yield of CTPA in our setting.
  • To describe the demographic and clinical profiles for patients diagnosed with PE.
  • To evaluate the diagnostic yield of alternate diagnoses.
