Abstract


This study is a retrospective audit. It will consist of three separate components

  • An audit of all trauma admissions to
  • the Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex.
    • This information will be extracted from the weekly departmental metropolitan morbidity and mortality meeting. 
  • the adult intensive care services in Pietermaritzburg
  • all the trauma victims presenting to the Pietermaritzburg State Mortuary
  • Total number of trauma patients
  • The following information will be extracted for each of the above categories:
Mechanism of the trauma. Mechanism will be classified as blunt (either assault or motor vehicle accident) and penetrating (either gunshot or stab).
