Abstract

Diffusion of innovation is a theory which examines how, why, and at what rate new ideas and

technology spread through the social system.

1 The introduction of any new technology

introduces challenges and opportunities both to the initiators of the new innovations and the

intended users of that particular technology. In this research the intention is to explore the

attitudes of intended users to the introduction and use of Information and Communication

Technologies (ICTís) in a hospital setting. The healthcare professional, being the primary

user of a clinical system, plays the most important role when it comes to the final benefits of

that system to the patient hence the choice of health staff as the primary focus group of this

study.
