Abstract

This study will use data collected previously in the CAPRISA 002 study. The CAPRISA 002 cohort enrolled 245 HIV negative individuals and participants were followed up monthly for 24 months. Women were recruited from the Durban region. Within this period 28 women were diagnosed with acute HIV infection, the majority of who remain in follow- up. For the purposes of this study, a retrospective review of data collected at enrolment visits will be done.  Risk behaviour, socio-demographic, pregnancy and CD4+ cell count data will be compared between women who remained HIV negative during follow up and those who acquired HIV infection.
