  1. To determine the frequency of sharp injuries amongst staff members at Edendale Hospital during the period 01 January 2010 31 December 2010 as reported to the Occupational health clinic.
  2. To document the profile of the staff who sustained needle stick injuries and who reported the needle stick injury to the occupational health clinic for the period 01 January 2010 31 December 2010.
  3. To determine the hepatitis B immune status of staff who sustained a sharp injury
  4. To determine the hepatitis B immune status of doctors and laboratory personnel at Edendale Hospital
  5. To assess the knowledge and attitude of doctors and laboratory personnel with regards to Hepatitis B infection and immunisation
  6. To make recommendations to management about the need to implement strict monitoring of the immunization status of the staff members at Edendale Hospital.
