Abstract

The aim of the study is to perform a retrospective audit of obstetric patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) at a tertiary/ quaternary hospital in the Durban Metropolitan Area. This audit is necessary because major changes to clinical guidelines in the management of HIV have been made in the last 5 years resulting in greater numbers of HIV infected women being on antiretroviral therapy(ARV) prior to or during pregnancy .This may have led to increased survival rates in obstetric patients admitted to ICU`s.
