Comparative Outcomes Of Hiv Infected And Hiv Uninfected Critically Ill Children With Multi-Drug Resistant (Mdr) Pathogens Treated With Colistin

Konstantinos Dimitriades, Prakash Jeena

The PICU at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital has seen an increase in MDR gram negative pathogens which are only sensitive to colistin. To treat these patients colistin is used on a named basis with MCC section 21 approval. There is in little evidence on the use of this agents in HIV infected children. This study will help increase the information available on children treated with colistin and will indicate whether the outcomes are equal in the HIV infected and uninfected patients.
