Abstract


1.1.   Aim of the proposed study

To assess the activity of halicyclamine A, nybomycin, trichoderin A and polybrominated diphenyl ether 8 on Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates with varying susceptibility profiles.

 

1.2.   Objectives of the proposed study

  • To perform a (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay on selected isolates in order to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC) of the marine extracts.
  • To perform agar dilution based MIC assays in order to confirm data obtained from the MTT assays.
  • To perform both the aforementioned assays under conditions of hypoxia in order to assess the effects of the marine extracts against latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • To perform kill curve analysis using compounds that show activity on the isolates.
