Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: A review and revised classification

Laura Redman, John Robbs

Abstract

There is no South African literature on Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and the research aims to correlate information on patients with this diagnosis. The research will take the form of a retrospective review from prospectively maintained computer database of patients presenting with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome over a ten year period. The presentation in terms of clinical findings, diagnosis and surgery will be reviewed. Neurological and vascular presentations will be reviewed separately and each categorised according to presentation. The findings of clinical presentations will then be correlated with surgical findings. The success rates of surgery will documented and correlated with any associated anatomical abnormality and the correction thereof.
