The Indications for hospitalization and outcome among South African patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Abstract


The hospital records of all patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria for the classification of SLE and its modification (1,2),  who were admitted  to the Department of Rheumatology at  Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH) will be reviewed. The records will be analyzed further to determine the reasons for hospitalization, the current and past  manifestations  of SLE,, drug therapy and any associated adverse effects of therapy, the presence of infections and other complications or co-morbidities. The outcome of the patients and factors contributing to morbidity and mortality will be recorded.
