Protocol Submission & Administration
Welcome to the Protocol review website for the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine.
This website will administer all applications for postgraduate research (as well as research for non degree purposes) for scientific review at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine.
All studies will undergo scientific and ethics review simultaneously.
All researchers are required to familiarize themselves with the Research Policies and Procedures. This information can be found as follows: http://research.ukzn.ac.za/Policies.aspx. Studies may not begin without postgraduate and full ethical approval. In addition, following full approval, any changes and amendments to this application must be approved by the postgraduate and Biomedical Research Ethics Committees before implementation. Failure to comply with these requirements is a breach of the UKZN and national ethics requirements and may lead to disciplinary action.
CPD Submission & Administration
Welcome to the Continuing Professional Development website for the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine.
Applications for CPD accreditation by providers should be made in advance of the event. A period of 3 months should be budgeted for the administration associated with the approval of the CPD activity.
Retrospective applications are discouraged.
- Every practitioner is required to accumulate 30 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per twelve-month period and five of the units must be on ethics, human rights and medical law.
- Each CEU will be valid for 24 months from the date on which the activity took place (or ended, in the event of post-graduate studies) after which it would lapse.
- This means that practitioners should aim to accumulate a balance of 60 CEUs by the end of their second year of practice, and thereafter top-up the balance through additional CPD as each 24 –month validity period expires.
